Jesus Changes Water Into Wine

2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Song - Water you turned into wine

You, O Lord, are almighty, endless in power and in love. When we have no power to help ourselves help us to know we can trust in you, in your presence and in your power.

We pray for the Church that it may know its true resources and power are from you; that it may be enabled to proclaim your saving power and your love. Give your Church the ability to be a healing instrument in the world, to bring peace and to proclaim your presence.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

We remember all who struggle for survival, the poor and the oppressed, the hungry and the homeless, all who feel powerless. We ask you to bless all who strive to bring justice and peace to our world

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

We give thanks for all who have enriched our lives by their love and goodness. We ask that your love may be experienced in our homes and among our loved ones and friends. We pray for homes where there is conflict, violence or abuse, especially for any who live in fear or feel unable to change.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Give strength to the weak, refresh the weary, encourage the fearful and protect all who are endangered. We remember friends and loved ones who are ill or in need of comfort and refreshment.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

We rejoice that you give us life in all its abundance and life eternal. We pray for all our loved ones departed that they may have the fullness of life in your kingdom

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

As followers of Christ, called to his service, we pray in his name

Merciful Father, accept these our prayers for the sake of your Son, our saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

And so we bind our prayers together in the words that Jesus taught his disciples
Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Forever.
Amen
